After months of grief following his brother's assassination, Bobby reemerged on the national scene at the Democratic Convention in 1964, where he received a 16 minute standing ovation.

Bobby is laid to rest, June 8, 1968. (UPI).

--Born November 20, 1925 in Brooline, MA.

--Graduates from Harvard University, 1948. While at Harvard, he takes part in the Navy Officers Training Program.

--Serves on the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, 1946.

--Accepted into UVA Law School 1948; graduates in 1951.

--Marries Ethel Skakel, 1950. The couple go on to have 11 children.

--Serves as Attorney in the Criminal Division of the Justice Department, 1951-52.

--Manages JFK's successful Senate bid, 1952.

--Serves on McCarthy Committee, 1952-53 as Assistant Counsel, 1954-57 as Chief Counsel to the Minority.

--Manages JFK's successful presidential campaign, 1959-60.

--Appointed Attorney General of the U.S., serving from 1961-1964.

--JFK assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald, November 22, 1963.

--Completes successful bid for U.S. Senate seat in New York, 1964.

--Travels to South Africa in 1966, where he gives a moving speech in which he calls on the youth of that country to fight injustice, telling them that with their efforts they can "sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance."

--March 16, 1968, announces that he is a candidate for the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party .

--March 31, 1968, President Lyndon Johnson announces he will not seek another term as president.

--April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King is assassinated by James Earl Ray in Memphis, TN. Against the advise of local police in Indianapolis where he is scheduled to make a speech in a ghetto neighborhood, RFK goes to the neighborhood without police protection, informs the crowd of the shooting, and pleads for understanding and calm. That night, while most of urban America burns in rage, Indianapolis stays quiet.

--May 1968: scores big victories in Indiana and Nebraska, only to suffer a stunning setback in Oregon at the hands of Eugene McCarthy at the end of the month. RFK states that if he loses the California primary, he will withdraw from the race.

--June 4, 1968, wins primaries in California and South Dakota, putting his campaign back on track.

--June 5, 1968, at 12:15 am, RFK is shot and critically wounded by Sirhan Sirhan just moments after Kennedy has finished his victory speech in the Embassy Ballroom of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles.

--June 6 1968 at 1:44 am, Robert Francis Kennedy dies at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. He is 42 years old at the time of his death.

--June 8, 1968: following a moving funeral ceremony in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral, Robert Kennedy's body is taken by train to Washington, DC, for buriel at Arlington National Cemetery. An estimated 1 million people line the train tracks in silent tribute between New York and Washington.
